POLICE WARNING !
Theft of portable satellite navigation systems from vehicles.
These systems are highly desirable items for thieves to steal from your vehicle.
It takes only seconds to break your car window and reach in or force the door if the opportunity arises.
Thieves can easily spot sat navs when they are left in the windscreens of unattended vehicles.
This also includes the fixing brackets and power cables which are being stolen along with the sat nav system or are being stolen separately.
Please take steps to ensure you do not become a car crime victim.
To reduce the chances of your system being stolen
1. When you leave your vehicle parked and unattended remove the sat nav and bracket from the windscreen where it is on full view.
(do not put it in the glove compartment. Thieves will look there, especially if they see the rubber sucker mark on the windscreen from the mounting bracket)
2. Remove the sat nav from the vehicle if possible and take it with you if you can. Put the bracket in the boot out of sight or take that as well.
3. Make a note of the make, model and identification number on the device and keep it some where safe or register it for free with www.immobilise.com
4. Security mark the sat nav . Use an ultra violet marker pen and a tamper proof label containing a warning that the device is traceable. Put your post code and house number on the sat nav and the label.
Free tamper proof labels are available at Crawley police station where you can also mark your sat nav with an ultra violet pen ).
5. Alternatively, etch your postcode & house number onto the device or try an indelible marker pen if it shows clearly, and without damaging the equipment.
6 always ensure you remove any valuable items from unattended vehicles where possible, and make sure doors and windows are closed and locked.
