CRAWLEY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Dear Resident

You may have noticed that in some of the roads near where you live there are signs indicating that you are entering a Neighbourhood Watch Area. In Crawley as a whole there are over 216 areas covering 7000 households. Your own locality does not have a scheme. The reason for this may be that neither you nor any of your neighbours are interested in setting up a scheme; it may be that you do not know how to go about setting up and operating a scheme and the potential advantages to be gained. If you fall into this latter category perhaps we can help you.

Each 'neighbourhood' in Crawley - be it Southgate, Furnace Green or the newest Maidenbower - has an area co-ordinator whose role is to help set up and keep 'active' local street/area schemes. Each area co-ordinator sits on the committee, which is active in promoting Neighbourhood Watch throughout Crawley through the media and by presence at fairs, fetes etc.

What are the benefits of being in a scheme?

You can find more about Crawley Neighbourhood Watch by looking at our web site at www.crawley.org.uk

Do give the idea of forming a scheme with your neighbours some serious thought- You have nothing to lose by contacting the telephone number given above: do so sooner rather than later - you may just deter the thief - who may already be "casing" your area.

Yours faithfully,

Crawley Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

The letter below is intended for co-ordinators to deliver to any local homes that they consider at risk during dusk - it is only intended as a friendly reminder.

Operation Twilight

Police advise that as most burglars are opportunists an empty home is more vulnerable to burglaries than one that appears to have occupants.

With many householders not returning from work until after dark their homes are increasingly at risk during the late afternoons and evenings. The local police have advised us of a few simple precautions that should be considered.

·        Use time switches to light rooms within the home

·        Use time switches to turn on a radio

·        Ask a friend or neighbour to draw the curtains and make it look as if you are at home

·        Fit a security light at the front of your house (don’t dazzle!)

·        Most importantly – Look in when you’re out

If you are not already a member - why not join us in

Neighbourhood Watch?
